The most basic life skill
Both parents and the teachers play a key role in building life skis and it can be best done with the proper cohesion between the home and school.
1. To commence the educational ethos in a child. We the parents and teachers need to instil good manners as a part of the social skills that need to be developed amongst the students. As cultivating good manners go a long way in helping the individuals to make a mark in the society and get ready for acceptance. We understand that school plays a pivotal role in this hence the month of August was dedicated to manners or ‘ Shishtachar’ in thought deed and practice children used the magic words like thank you, sorry etc. as well as giving compliments and applying the soft and polite words in their day to day interaction with peers, teachers and family.
2. Psychology of self- As child steps into the external world of education they need to understand and handle their own small needs with little bit of assistance from the teachers and nannies.
The first step of understanding self is to make child more independent, self-reliant and self-assured by handling their needs and thoughts. Initially with the help and gradually instilling the technique amongst them by repeated reminders,
a) Consoling them to put away their toys and books after playing and reading.
b) Meticulously put their belongings and clothing in proper shelves or bags.
c) Tying and untying their Velcro straps and shoe lace, removing socks etc.
d) Washing and wiping hands before and after meal and after having the messy play.
e) Control their urges to cry, scream or shout uncontrollably.
f) Combing their hair and maintaining over all neatness. In short personal grooming supervision is important for pre- schoolers at home and school.

3. Problem solving- Life skill activities that contribute in facing and solving problems in nuclear families.
a) Teach them Emergency numbers of parents.
b) Ingrain some tips about the kitchen safety.
c) Button and unbutton, zip and unzip their clothes.
d) Make them learn- Emergency numbers as per geographical location- Hospital, Ambulance, Fire and Police.
e) Things to avoid – Speaking to the strangers and accepting candies and eatables from others.
4. Decision Making- Right and Wrong…….. Teach them the difference between right and wrong. The set of guided skills helps them in managing day to day challenges. Delve into some interesting and engaging life skills for young learners.

5. Flameless cooking- Let them satiate their hunger pangs with fireless or flameless cooking. Assemble their own sandwich, fruits or salads. Encourage them to be attentive, work methodically and have patience in crumbling and assembling cookie cakes.
At JBM Smart start Children were recently taught to make ‘chocolate balls’ with crushed biscuits, cocoa powder and condensed milk. The sense of achievement and pride, we saw in their eyes while serving it was well worth.
To summarize we must ensure that children learn few basic life skills at pre-primary level. We must start young hence the seed of independence in an individual has to sown before they are four as that is very vulnerable age to have deep imprints for lifelong learning.
